City On A Hill - Iron Sharpeners

Pro 27:17 NKJV - As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

There is both, pleasure and advantage to Godly relationships and conversation. One man cannot become much by himself, nor will reading the best books reward him as much as Godly relationships and conversation will. Wise and profitable discourse will sharpen a man's reasoning. No matter how much knowledge a man has, Godly relationships and conversation will always add something to him. It will sharpen his appearance and by cheering his spirit put a liveliness into his countenance, finding his identity and purpose in God and feeling better about himself he will make those around him feel better as well.

Disciples are sharpened by other disciples and those with worldly wisdom with their lusts and passions by others in the world as Iron is sharpened by its like. Men are sharpened, made smooth and bright and fit for business by Godly relationships and conversation although they once were rough and dull, and inactive.

This is designed to,

1. Allow us to recognize a need of being sharpened and being very careful about who we choose to have relationships and conversation with because the influence upon us is so great for the better or the worse.

2. To direct us to understanding what goals we have set in regards to our conversations and relationships mainly to improve both others and ourselves, not just to waste time or banter one another, but to "provoke one another to love and to good works" resulting in making one another a wiser and better man.
